Hello, my name is Peyton!

I’m a high school senior who loves to write songs. I’ve written over 200 songs throughout high school, and I’ve shared some of my favorites here.

I wrote this song during a songwriting camp and had the opportunity to professionally record it!

The camp gave me a picture of a lighthouse overlooking the ocean and told me to write a song about that. It’s a song all about missing somebody and taking the memory of them with you, and there’s tons of imagery around the location.

My Demos

These are songs that I’ve self-recorded. They are acoustic versions and I did all the guitar and vocals on my own.

About the song:

“Just Wishing” is maybe my favorite song I’ve ever written. It so perfectly captured the feelings I had at the time, and that’s the best feeling when you’re writing a song. At its core, this song is about moving on. It’s about closing the door to something you know isn’t right. But, it’s also a very sad and emotional song because letting go is never easy.

My favorite lyric:

“Oh / When it starts snowing / Will you remember that girl / Standing out in the cold / Just wishing you would want her”

About the song:

I wrote “95 Degrees” the day I came back home to Texas after being on vacation. It was the middle of the summer, and it was super hot. So, I was inspired to write a song about how summer/hot weather can trigger memories. This is one of my sadder songs, and to be honest, I was definitely being overdramatic. I wasn’t actually so sad, but I leaned into the feeling while writing this song.

My favorite lyric:

“16 went by in a blur / Of wishing that you were with me instead of with her / And everything about this city this time of year / Makes me wish you were here.”

About the song:

“Still I’m Stuck” is about being stuck in the past longer than you know you should be. It’s also about wishing things had gone a different way. But, through experiences like the one that inspired this song, I’ve learned to trust the timing of life. Sometimes, things aren’t meant to go the way we want them to, and oftentimes there was a better plan all along.

My favorite lyric:

“Still I’m stuck here thinking ‘bout' / how it could’ve all turned out / but I guess it’s too late now”
